Confirmed - iTunes sucks
It looks as if my initial concern about iTunes wasn't
unique. I am uninstalling it from my system now.

Wake up people, iTunes is for tools. If you are one of the 1/100 people who pay for music legitemately, iTunes is for you. And i'm not talking buying cds, using mp3.com, bonfire, or any other decent site, Im talking from the iTunes music store. iTunes only works if your id3 info is perfect. I recently installed iTunes on my computer hoping it would live up to it's amazing reputation, but lo and behold, it fucked up my library. It rearranged every fucking file, and stuck it where I don't want it. It also re-encoded certain files which already worked fine with WMP. All in Mac's quest to try to legitimize the mp3 revolution. Now your probably screaming at your screen saying,' you ckecked the box upon install telling it to do that'. Well I'm sorry. Its a small fucking box in about 10 windows dury the install. Nobody reads that shit. A descent program would provide a way to reverse the damage, or at least mitigate it.
For me, WMP works perfectly fine. Unless your a complete dumbass who needs a program to make a party mix for you, iTunes is useless. With WMP the music interface is windows itself. Allowing you to browse folders and que-up what you want to listen to. No such ability exists with this enigma of mac software. You must scroll through the endless lists of your songs, organized by artists or albums, which only works if your id3 info is perfect. And god help you if you stick a 'the' in front of 'red hot chilli peppers'. Then your really fucked. The program lacks the ability to group similar names, so you have two different locations for the exact same music.
In conclusion, save yourself the pain, agony and time, and just use WMP9 or greater.
In regards to the iPod revolution, god help us.

I use Quintessential Player for playing music. I'm not crazy about WMP, and avoid using it. Media Player Classic is much better suited for what I do.

Every good comments page needs one dissent. As a means of obtaining music, I agree, it sucks.
However, as a means of organizing music, I am very happy with it. Primarily I like that all meta-data is stored in a single xml file, allowing me to parse it out and look at how I listen to music. I've realized some of my favorite songs are not getting played because I don't have them in playlists I use frequently.
I've had no problems with itunes 'moving' my music, they have this handy little "location" field in the xml file that 'locates' the music and plays it from wherever it is on my computer. For reals, if you are going to recommend something else, find something robust, not crappy win media player.

Lev spoiled the calm with:
Oh, that's such bullshit. You're uninstalling it because it doesn't fully support the artists that you are otherwise stealing from?
At least just say you don't like it as a player and be done with it.

I think I already said that I don't like it as a player.
And by "stealing" from them, I am doing them more a service by hurting the recording industry that is trying to continue their terrible practices, in the face of a new, supposedly liberating technology. I'm not going to play ball.

But I still buy CD's from band websites, and go to as many concerts as I can.
