Oh Hi From Eight Years Ago
I'm sorry.
It's been a very long time since I updated this site. I've been meaning for years to update its backend code, to accommodate a number of technologies I've learned about, and for some much-needed improvements to performance, stability, and continuity. Then the bastard Russians seized the Crimea and I forgot all about it. I kid. What I really mean is: I got married, moved to Denver, had kids, and switched jobs twice. So the effort it would take to make the necessary updates would require something I really don't have anymore: free time. Let me be clear though: I do still have free time-- just not nearly as much. And the idea of using that reduced free time to work on a website's backend code did not place high on my list of personal priorities. Around the time of the 2016 election, I not only became much more outspoken about politics, but I gave up on the Republican Party, with which I most closely identified between the two major parties, for most of my adult life.
It's not like I was quiet about this though. But from looking at the
archives section of this site, it would appear that I have been sitting in a cave with my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears since 2014. I have not, but in hindsight, I may as well have been. I have been pouring my thoughts into posts on facebook, for them to be consumed and maybe even enjoyed for a day or two, but invariably, to disappear in the mound of nonsense to which that service has been reduced. I don't know if facebook is responsible for the extremely short news cycle that afflicts our society now, but it certainly does explain my own frustration with short-lived content.
So I am going to try to make an effort to put my thoughts here, instead of facebook, where the algo only shows the 14 people whose own algo aligns with the desire to read anything I write. Pursuant to that, I have put in the effort to make the updates I wanted to make to this site. There are new URLs for RSS syndication, if you wish to use a reader app to get site updates. You can see any applicable links in the link cluster on the right side.
I will try to keep my thoughts here, for your sake and for mine.
