Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I'm also skeptical that many people will choose to park downtown just to take the streetcar to 39th, but I'm sick of urban planning around where everybody will park. The solution to the "lost street parking" (perhaps better known as recovered street space) will be that people park a block or two fa...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

Nashville has 42,000 hotel rooms in 14 counties
Kansas City has 34,000 hotel rooms in the metro

So Nashville has 25% more rooms but 33% more overnight guests. So something has them hitting above KC relative to size.

Shockingly Loar again caught up in a conflict. Why does she keep getting elected? No one ran against her in 2018 I’m to the point that I’ll move to her district so let to run against her  The council has consecutive term limits. She has to take an election off before she could run again. Thus,...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Love the idea but would be curious how they address the parking, which is already an issue for the residents and businesses in the area. 39th street is awesome and this would be a great amenity for the area but fact is those businesses need parking for the people who get there from outside the neig...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

Hotel Bravo developers said they had asked Visit KC something alomng the lines of "why did your top 10 conventions you went after say no to KC". Response was lack of luxury hotel and that what upper up scale product that does exist is all all old stock. I think new construction is desired to have t...

So in other words, do nothing because it’s not good enough? Not at all. I'm just saying that a CID literally can't be the mechanism to accomplish these kind of targeted tax increases. It doesn't have that kind of power. Source: Am CID attorney. Wouldn’t the CID be able to establish a different asse...

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?

I'm not sure the school district would sell off their green space so the southern half would be possible, but redoing the portion in the shopping center is sound. I like the idea of a through street across the front of HD. It makes no sense that anyone would have made it harder than necessary to get...

Slides from Power Point. First 2 are renderings The first two are photographs taken in other hotels. The lighting refletions are way too good to be renderings. If they're renderings they're on the scale of a movie, and no one who has that bad of a presentation deign is spending that much money on r...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

Although my experience is from 1994 I think it would still be pertinent to today. There are two types of fans going to the games. Of course one is the fans following their home country team. The other is a fan who buys a package for games at one location. We saw 3 first round games in Chicago and o...

Re: COVID19

One of the biggest problems this country faces is the simple fact that Democrats congregate in a few states, and give the GOP uncontested control of too many states and possible electoral votes. This makes it possible for GOP presidential candidates to lose the popular vote, and still win the presi...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

So we go full BRT and hope Bravo and that Plaza Holiday Inn hotel spot are done by 2026? Wonder what % of the games at Arrowhead would be from KC area or a place where they would drive in from their home and not need hotel. Looking at past locations around 2-3 games across a week or so was common f...

I'm copying this from a transit thread for posterity since it crosses topics. Busses is the clear winner. And not buying them but leasing coach busses from the big operators for a few days. Something designed to carry luggage. ----------------- I saw something that described the transportation deman...

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?

My problem isn't with Costco or Home Depot. I love shopping at Costco. The problem is the huge ass surface parking lot. At the time, there was minimal forethought beyond just getting development in the core. If we had to re-do, the developers should have structured parking along with mixed uses in ...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal

I would count Dallas Love since they tore down the old terminal. 8 isn't that big on the scale of 120+ airports people from KC fly to. Panama City is the smallest city with a direct flight from KC and it was the 118th largest airport in 2019 by enplanements. I would argue people need to see the expe...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

Most those taxes would come from the convention/tourism sales tax. Of which $2.3 million is going to the Lowes hotel annually as part of the incentives package. I expect the incentives will pass because that amount is with incentives and it would help the city pay down its obligations. After incenti...

Re: COVID19

Trump got elected in 2016 due in large part to anti-Hillary sentiment and because voters thought he deserved the chance. Those voters quickly discovered the error of their ways and voted out the gop in 2018 and Trump specifically in 2020 (I think most people wanted divided government). These voters...

Has... has anyone else in Kansas City been to a similarly sized, recently constructed (within the last 20 years) airport terminal before? People, this works in other cities. It will work here. Not every Kansas Citian is an Unfrozen Cave Man Flyer. For most people, the answer would be a resounding N...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I see it now. If that is the case, I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s not worth the cost to expand light rail then if it’s not going even be central. Might as well just stick with streetcar and expand then. Or better yet, use the money we’d spend on light rail on more needed projects instead. So ...
