Re: Katz on Main

Across Main St., Major Murray Davis Park has received a grant from AARP for a makeover. Community input will be solicited. Have no idea why AARP would do this. Are there a lot of seniors in the area? AARP is mainly for age 50+. It's not just seniors on top of that. They'll let anyone sign up but so...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I don't at all accept your math or premise here, but I respect you giving it a good go I took my bus driver pay rate from the KCATA job posting the cost to lay rail is from the UMKC extension cost the bus lifespan came from the ATA replacement cycle of 10-15 years the train lifespan from a streetca...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

How is building rail cheaper than hiring drivers? It can be. A bus driver costs about $20/hour. Let's assume a train driver is paid the same for comparison purposes. We want to move 120-150 riders every 15 minutes across a four mile distance. We know the train will cost about $300 million right now...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

It has also been said 1,000 times that tram-trains are a thing and that a LRV can run in traffic in the city and on dedicated ROW elsewhere Not even elsewhere. Houston runs the CAF Urbos 3 in dedicated lanes in the city. They also run it in mixed traffic on the same system. That their *light rail* ...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Doesn't that justify keeping it bus? I can't figure out what the justification is for running rail unless it's dedicated. I have no time for mixed traffic suburban rail. I think you're missing the topic of induced demand in the equation. The goal is to induce transit use which means fewer cars on t...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Feels like the "it doesn't make sense ...stadiums..." keeps getting posted. Arrowhead is the gateway to the suburbs. It has been said multiple times here and on twitter. They wanna do a streetcar all the way to the suburbs and not light rail? This is an especially stupid statement you use over and ...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

Not sure I follow. Combining the current (shrinking population) 3rd with a minority Historic NE creates two minority seats. Combining the current (shrinking population) 5th with minority suburbs around Grandview creates the two more minority seats. Of course, this means the 6th gets pushed further ...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I understand that it’s just a tweet and he’s just tweeting this to generate buzz and such, but it really doesn’t make sense to commit to building any rail at all to TSC until there’s a signed lease beyond 2031. The ending at the stadium lines up with the Rock Island into Lee's Summit. If the goal i...

I just wanted to let you know, you are the reason I wrote the last sentence in my post. It's so obvious even before I clicked "Submit" that you're gonna complain that I even got out ahead of it with my last sentence, but that still wouldn't even stop you, would it? You just simply couldn't accept m...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

Watching the meeting of the commission, they said the main goal was minority representation. This looks to mean that districts 3 and 5 keep getting bigger to keep them minority represented. This probably means 4 moves a good way into the Northland and 6 takes the spin term part of the State Line st...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

This is how the Troost boundary is busted. Again, shift lines in your mind since I doubt these exact ones work, but imagine the council where the 4th drops everything south of the crossroads and keeps the historic NE + gains from 1st and 2nd. Then give midtown to the 3rd and split up 5th/6th for dis...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

If KCMO wants to beat the Northland...its most current signature project (aside from streetcar, I suppose) is the airport in the Northland. Maybe refocus the big projects back to the urban core. How does the airport benefit the northland politically? Do northland residents visit the airport weekly ...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

I love the streetcar more than most...but the only thing bad about it right now are the wait times at the stops. It's usually takes way too long to wait for it to come to your stop. The last several times I've used it, people are electing to just walk from Union Station to downtown or vice versa *a...

The northland of KCMO has about 218k people today It has ready development land for 125k more So, we'll be on the hook for more soccer fields? It goes way beyond that. Clay County EDC has a group looking at starting our equivalent of College Blvd. The "587" project. http://www.clayedc.com/news/news...
