Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

Release wild bison into the CBD downtown once a week. this almost made me spit coffee all over my keyboard. A dozen years ago, or so, there was a cattle drive thru downtown led by Mike Murphy, who was an AM radio celebrity. The cattle got loose near 12th and Grand, and that was among the most fun t...

Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

I get the point to these ideas, they all have merit by themselves. How do they make someone want to come downtown on a whim who isn't already, say someone in Omaha looking to plan a weekend trip or someone looking for cheap flights to make them consider KC? Build an arch. An arch over the MO River ...

Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

I always thought that we should take a boulevard or avenue and make it the "Boulevard of Fountains." This would be perfect for a capped loop along Truman "Boulevard." The middle area would be a park space with a series of gigantic scale fountains, with some made to run year round. If I ever find mo...

Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

It'd be cool to see a riverfront entertainment space + pier. Maybe a true steam boat replica that does dinner/dinning boat cruises. It could totally fit with an attraction as a cultured Paris of The Plains + Mark Twain + Wild West + Jazz and Folk music + Wizard of Oz + Oregon Trail. I like the idea...

Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

the riverfront redevelopment to the river idea is a good one except for one major problem a three-wide freight train lines that are part of one of the busiest routes in the country. they built a train over train overpass on the same route at I-435 it's so busy. additionally, that's one of only two E...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

A thought I had. A streetcar or train with level boarding fulfills the goals of ADA in providing the ability for individuals with disabilities to get around on their own much more than requiring special vehicles with lifts to be scheduled to come and drive them around. it would be possible for someo...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

so the question becomes, do airlines plan to sit at the gate longer at MCI because of our airport design?

Could a new design increase the ability of airlines to run efficiently so less gates would be needed.

THe downtown urban attraction?

KC needs a retail/restaurant people drawing incentive. Something to draw people downtown so that the next big development project is a "shopping mall" to take advantage of the crowds. So that this retail makes more people want to live downtown. We need that something that all big cities have. The id...

Re: Beer vendors for festival.

Call the city. we can't and shouldn't help with something with legal consequences if handled wrong. ----------- that said, as a society we need more flexible alcohol laws for dinner drinking and get stricter on abuse. if we're serious about crime then abuse of alcohol is a major source of crime in o...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Are they really planning to replace the whole airport with a single terminal with about 40 gates? Each of the existing terminals has 30 gates. they can speed up turnover if everything runs more efficiently. like not needing to hold planes as long for transfers because people need to go between secu...

Re: Which proposed streetcar extension will be completed fir

has any city ever pulled off an equally large streetcar expansion all at once as the city's phase 2 idea?

I know Houston is doing something similarly sized right now with light rail

Re: Which proposed streetcar extension will be completed fir

Is there a way to tie system rail installing in with street maintenance? If Q 1 passes today the city's going to be able to do more road work. Once engineering has a plan ready if we're going to tear up a segment of a street anyways it would make sense to begin streetcar work on it. it's unclear ho...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

interesting, the existing street funds may be usable by the city for one expansion line. Independence Ave is US 24. 142.350. The funds herein provided for the construction of state highways shall be distributed between the higher type roads (herein referred to as the primary system) and the other st...

not a building but I saw that the big empty lot at 13th and Baltimore is for sale. Don't recall that being the case the last time I went by there. Hopefully someone buys and puts in a mixed retail/residental project. downtown could use an electronics store for one. that's a very big lot for that par...

Re: Primary Voting Day - KC Issue #1 and #2

I expect schools to require parental agreement on religions decisions until at least college, and that the belief be recognized by the religion of the individual. the courts ruled that students don't have all their first amendment rights while at school years back when the whole school paper freedom...
