Re: Three Light

For the groundbreaking, being off the timeline because of opportunities to start is far from unique. The streetcar downtown groundbreaking was May 22, 2014 The first track was already finished in ~Oct 2013 because modot was replacing the 670 bridge that fall. So the groundbreaking was for the remain...

Re: Downtown ballpark and condos

And if you think Overland Park voters want any part of a light rail line that goes to WyCo or KCMO then you are nuts. Call me nuts. They'd approve a light rail line to Chiefs and SKC stadiums at VW with an extension on to KCI. They better be prepared to pay for it without federal help. That's one h...

Re: COVID19

Found the chart source https://acasignups.net/21/09/12/simple-actuarial-analysis They attempt to make a 2022 midterms assessment and figure about 115k more Republicans die nationwide by then The argument made in the article at the end is Republicans in power don’t care about those deaths if it means...

Re: Surface Lots, Land Banking, Ect

I'm positive that would bring a court challenge. They're describing a CID, it would hold up. https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=67.1521 Would take a vote of the people inside the district A CID would only be able to impose special assessments for public improvements and/or a 1% sal...

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E_bYdQWWQAcQF3h?format=jpg&name=small Percent of deaths this summer (uses the total number of voters for both numbers, not the total number of people in each county) 10-20%: 1% of people, 0.15% of deaths. (Better than average) 20-30%: 5% of people, 1.78% of deaths. (Bett...

Re: Surface Lots, Land Banking, Ect

It would seem to me that the approach to take would be to change how the county values a surface parking lot versus a parcel with an improved, maintained building on it. The obvious way is a land tax, and by how you zone the parcel. If the tax on vacant land is high enough, it motivates the propert...

Re: Downtown ballpark and condos

I think another *key* point they need to be making is that no matter what you will be paying for renovations. Period. Which may be in the ballpark of same amount of $ needed to pay the taxpayers share of a new stadium too anyway (no pun intended). They need to realize that taxpayers are gonna be on...

Re: Surface Lots, Land Banking, Ect

I assume this would cause the forfeiture of many vacant lots to the city, especially those in depressed areas which would increase the cost for the city to mow those lots and also lose any property tax being paid for those properties. If the cost of holding the lot is more than any value of the pro...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

I actually told HR people that when they reached out to me and were in OP I would apply when the positions with them that said NKC on it. When they would end up calling and it was really in KCK I would turn them down with that reason. That they actually had a campus in NKC that was 20% the commute ...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

The way to get votes is access to jobs. It's why NKC works so well as a destination. Just based on ridership potential it's not there at all, the line is about bringing people to NKC. It's why I so like the idea of crossing I-35 to get to NKC Hospital. It's why I like a line to KU Med, for the jobs...

Just curious, why didn't take the riverfront connection down 3rd street through Columbas park? More people served and better connection to HOA bridge.
It would need to cross two railroads. Imagine the system shutting down constantly or building an expensive bridge

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

There are airports with longer walks ripping their moving sidewalks out. It is not a long walk. Any type of decent walk pulling luggage is difficult for many people in our community including the elderly and mildly disabled. The elderly have access to golf cart transportation in many airports so th...

2020 was the first year Alabama had more deaths than births (all causes). Haven’t seen any other state in that situation.

If the current pace keeps up they’re surpass their 2020 covid dead count in less than 3 weeks

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

A paired expansion also helps galvanise support it stops both the northland and east side from feeling like they are left out. Linwood + Main + 39th as a single line could do well for the same reason. It scored high for redevelopment in that Nextrail document. If it reaches the VA that's two hospit...
