Re: COVID19

Dying kinda sucks even if you disagree with the deceased's politics. The problem is less that they don't want it, and more the bullshit machines that are feeding this crap. We have gone from a society that refused to believe anything that appeared on the internet was true to one that believes everyt...

Re: NFL Draft

I think he's saying that if metro KC were entirely (or mostly?) in Kansas, that would inundate the state with a large number of democratic voters. But I would be pretty surprised if it turned the whole state blue, and anyway, if I wanted to live in Kansas... I'd live in Kansas. If there were ever a ...

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but once upon a time when the O pressed it worked. Third and long in a desperate situation? Touchdown! Repeatedly. Kinda got used to that, and it was probably not a fair expectation was my point.

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For one, Mahomes has not been as good as one might unfairly expect. Scrambling out of pressure and making improbable throws to convert or score... well, they are improbable for a reason. Which is not to let the defense off the hook, they have not been great. I think the team will probably be fine in...

Re: COVID19

Trump got elected in 2016 due in large part to anti-Hillary sentiment and because voters thought he deserved the chance. Those voters quickly discovered the error of their ways and voted out the gop in 2018 and Trump specifically in 2020 (I think most people wanted divided government). These voters...

Is our primary criticism of KC at the moment that we don't have sufficient housing for the excessively rich?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to North Kansas City

For the record, I argued for a long time before the streetcar existed that expanded bus service (or PRT, of which I was an early advocate) which could actually function to connect people to jobs and whatnot was a better investment than a couple miles of streetcar, and I haven't entirely changed my m...

Re: COVID19

Vaccination doesn't prevent COVID infection. It helps the immune system recognize COVID to fight it off. In most people, vaccination results in a less serious infection, and less likelihood of death from it. The vast majority of hospitalization and deaths now are among unvaccinated. Vaccinated peop...

I don't.

I mean, I hear a vague nonsensical warbling noise reminiscent of the adults in Peanuts cartoons wafting over the background noise of hundreds of people failing to pay any attention.

Re: Whataburger

They've been creeping north along 35 for a while, they've been in OKC, Tulsa, and NW Arkansas. KC was probably inevitable although I think the Mahomes-generated hype may have accelerated expansion plans a bit. I certainly don't think having arguably the largest local celebrity in history tweeting ab...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

I don't have any reason to suspect these are the same people posting as sock puppets. I do question the insistence on a "cultural issue" in the black community regarding "absentee fathers" when we have incarcerated young black men at insane rates, made penalties harsher for crimes young black men ar...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

I guess it depends on what constitutes your definition of "fighting crime". It sometimes seems this means pulling over poor and/or minority people for the most trivial of infractions and then burdening them with unreasonable fines and fees they can't afford to pay, which, whether that was the intent...

Re: 2023 KCMO Election

I think Lucas has been fine and would vote for him again. I think the protestors bitching about the police reform stuff are probably mostly completely misinformed and/or conspiracy theorists. Unfortunately, people who are completely misinformed and/or conspiracy theorists also get to vote, but hey, ...

I think Grad School would like to come back to KC but are focusing on getting things stabilized in Springfield first. I have no idea if they'll be back to that location or not, but they had to be making it work there, they were always pretty busy. Would suck if they're gone for good, that place was ...

Dude, get a fucking grip and stop being so sensitive and awful or I'm just going to ban you. I've tried very hard to be understanding and reasonable for years at this point, but you can't seem to handle adult interaction. If someone accuses you of ignorance and questions your understanding of econom...

Re: Politics

Making contradictory claims, hmmm. I'm not sure who that resembles. I'm not saying DColeKC is a liar or even malicious, I'm saying his motive here--which he may not even be cognizant of--is not to actually discuss anything. I think that's what he probably thinks it is, to be fair, but he does argue ...
