Main Street

I was in KC recently. I noticed that Main is undergoing considerable roadwork from near downtown all the way to near the Plaza. Is this work for the streetcar expansion or is it just maintenance? Actually, there was considerable roadwork going on throughout the metro and especially in KCMO. Kind of ...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!

^When the PAC-12, ACC, Big10 signed that alliance, it was over. That was the agreement basically saying we’re not gonna start a war over poaching Big 12 schools. Big10 made their decision to go East, not west. They wanted the NY market instead of going into Great Plains. That’s why I’ve been saying...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

BBQ is included, but do we know what BBQ it's going to be? The rendering in that PDF that was posted a few days ago just shows a generic-looking spot with a big "BBQ TO GO" sign next to it at the very bottom of the slide deck. Considering they have a bunch of brand names for everything else, is the...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!

I like the idea of the B12 picking up BYU, Cincy, Central Florida and Houston. While losing two major flagship universities will hurt and there is no way these four can bring the national program and history in football (although BYU does have a national championship), they are solid football progra...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

A little disappointed here by the restaurant venues proposed for the new airport. I think the city needs to have a representation from the food it is most known for: BBQ and particular consideration should be given to one of KC's better known BBQ restaurants. Omitting BBQ would be a a missed opportu...

"Kansas City awarding massive airport contracts for restaurants, bars and shops in secret" "Joe’s Kansas City thought it had a solid shot at serving barbecue at the new KCI. But behind-the-scenes maneuvering raised questions about how one of the most lucrative contracts in years is awarded." Star he...

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals

90% of the Royals fanbase is suburban/rural> That number seems a bit too high and simplistic. I area we do have a fan base that draws from the region, and once outside of the metro you rural areas. I'd argue that the true rural market, even those right on the edge of the metro maybe come to 1-2 gam...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!

This is getting very scary now. Rumors KU and ISU to Big Ten. It's REALLY time for KC to move on from college basketball. Sure, the city has a great history of hosting major NCAA events, but there is not even a real team based in the city and KC no longer has the facilities to host Final Fours etc ...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

Looks like google maps has an update for KCI. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.298551,-94.7198953,754m/data=!3m1!1e3 I was looking at the new terminal this morning. I am wondering if the inner concourse will have gates on both the east and west sides (like the outer concourse will)? Not much room fo...

Re: Three Light

JE DUNN posted that they plan 1 jump. That's odd, since the photos indicate the hoisting collar is not installed on the Comansa crane. That's what I said. I guess they will build the collar later? I have always found tower cranes to be fascinating. Hopefully the W&R one stays up for a while, but it...

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals

I think facilities matter on one level as does atmosphere. Kids choose colleges like this when being recruited but ultimately it can boil down to opportunity & exposure. In pro sports you typically do not get a chance to choose where you want to play until Free Agency. Once you hit that you look fo...

I was wondering whatever happened to this project? In 2019 it seemed like a likely build. Did it become a Covid casualty?

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

If Wikipedia is right, it’s a good thing it closed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam%27s_Mark History section Why is it a good thing and why would people not care that it's not restored into a proper hotel. Much of the KC area is run down when driving around the metro. Highways, bridges, and whate...

New demographic maps from CNN

KC looks about as segregated as most other major cities in the US. It's clear from the maps that almost every city in the US has distinct red/orange areas (black/hispanic) and blue areas (white). The CNN methodology makes it easier to see how the denser cities are segregated. For the less dense citi...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

Not really 39th proper but the vicinity of 39th and Main has some new restaurants. In addition to Canary, I saw on Midtown News that Tailleur has just opened (well, soft opening) at 39th and Main. Looks interesting. Nice looking place but menu is somewhat limited. Website implies it is the same owne...

Just curious. What happens to the old jail building DT KC? That's a fairly substantial building that is not all that old but could be difficult to repurpose.

I don't get why they aren't building it on land the County already owns at Blue Ridge Cutoff and Raytown Road. There's a bus stop there, and it's not in a flood plain. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0383296,-94.477549,1059a,35y,270h/data=!3m1!1e3 What do you bet they build this new jail complex, a...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Anyone have a picture of Paul’s Bar 224 West 12th St Kcmo This would have been among the buildings demolished around 1984 for the current Marriott DT (not the newer Muehlebach addition, but the old Vista hotel). This was a big early 1980s redevelopment scheme, Mayor Berkeley era. All in all, a pret...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

^In other words, they screwed up having the most central city in the country not being an airport hub. It was an out dated design the day it opened. Many airlines have tried hubs here but all have failed. Oddly enough, KCI was actually designed to be the hub for TWA. TWA controlled much of the desi...
