Re: Katz on Main

This case has already been approved by the commission. If a new case came up where someone wanted to demolish instead, the commission would have another case. If demolition was not approved, it would delay the project...but it would still be hard to completely stop the project. That is why the city ...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

The cornice is missing right now. I guess they are re-building the structure and will put the masonry back?

I’m still entirely unclear how ADA relates to the park cap.
Maybe this is in reference to the part of the cap West of Baltimore? That section bridges over a grade change. I think a tiered portion was proposed there. The ramps would be insane.

Re: One Kansas City Place

That's the second floor above the 1st floor lobby. It still looks like that as far as I know, even though I haven't been back to the building since last November. It's still got the dark tile, dark wood paneling and chrome in the lobby from 1988...lol. The owners do very little to maintain the buil...

That is a terrible, crumbling garage. This should be a massive improvement. That will be a very nice block once it is done!

Re: 13th and Grand tower

Interesting note about twisty towers in KC. In 1981 a 60 story twisty tower designed by Harry Weese was proposed by Trizec somewhere around Union Station. Design was ahead of its time and certainly would have changed KC dramatically. Sounds cool. I wonder if there are any drawings of that. Would ha...

It would enclose the interesting little accidental piazza here with its collection of deco and moderne. Moderne, I love that description of the intersection. I also really hope none of the existing buildings will be torn down! I'd love to see an new building on that site with the same massing as Th...

Re: Americo Plaza Tower (Former Holiday Inn)

I'm glad all the parking is planned to be hidden underground . Even with the streetcar, many people who live here will have jobs in JOCO or up north and need to drive. They will also want to go to the grocery store and target and places like that. Even if they could use the streetcar access shopping...

It's a grand old high rise with tremendous redevelopment potential, especially now with the Troost Village redevelopment adjacent. The skyline views to the north are epic. Yes The Mayfair Apartment-Hotel is a beautiful building by (local architect) Philip Drotts. That is good news! https://scontent...

I think moving the airline museum to current KCI Terminal C would be awesome.
I like that idea. I wish they would keep one of the terminals. They are/were a great example of Brutalist architecture!

Did I hear the Airline Museum is getting booted from the downtown airport? Might work here, especially if the collection can be expanded or paired with something else.

Re: Katz on Main

Yes, sounds like Fang and LastGentlemen are understanding my point of view. Hell, if that space south of the tower is a restaurant on the ground floor, why not set that back 10 or 15 feet from the sidewalk. You could get a nice outdoor patio there along Main, protected a bit from traffic. I think th...

Re: Katz on Main

Let’s be honest, there are no neighborhood groups in Midtown. Actually, several of the actual neighborhoods in midtown do have organizations! Roanoke, Hyde Park, Valentine, Coleman Highlands, and Southmoreland all have groups. The core of Westport doesn't and I suppose that is the area you are refe...

Re: Katz on Main

I take the long view: Many buildings we cherish today were not considered inspiring or contextually-sensitive in their day. You know this. We all know this. But somehow, a new building today is discarded as "another boring box" by armchair architects when the city is actually littered with "boring ...
