Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

It was my fathers bar Closed in the late 1960s Been trying to find a picture This pic is from 1977 and I can't find addresses of any of the businesses shown, but based on where 224 W would be on a typical east-west block I would guess it's likely the bar that in 1977 is called "Peyton Place". Thoug...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I'm an old-schooler who agrees with Broadway as the dividing line between Crossroads and West Side. I feel like the boundary should be a street that people actually interact with rather than a freeway up on stilts that's used to pass over both neighborhoods as quickly as possible.

I figured Grad School has been done for like a year. That location is so cursed, the only thing that could make it successful is if Q39 or Hawaiian Bros went in

I didn't even realize they had ever even finally opened.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Not long ago I witnessed a group of kids circling a block riding them on the sidewalk, riding through a sidewalk seating area and deliberate bumping into people's tables. After about the third or fourth time they did this a customer finally told them to get off the sidewalks and some of the kids jum...

Re: North Kansas City

Wow, RIP NKC Pro Bowl. That was a landmark in the Northland, sort of like King Louie West was in OP. Interesting that place would sell, must be a heck of an offer. The Bowling Alley always did decent business, and they had the banquet center that used to be the old Gold Buffet. In the heyday it had...

Re: North Kansas City

Details are extremely sketchy, but the bowling center complex in NKC has apparently been sold to a condo developer for demolition and redevelopment. No info yet as to the buyer but I would assume probably the same outfit who tried to purchase the place in January and was rebuffed. This all happened ...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

I don't think that dispensary will be there that long though, because I think they will get bought out when that block gets redeveloped. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0991581,-94.5798119,3a,75y,223.9h,90.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1smNhSE5BHjYNjk3uexBa3og!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en The block that's been...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

I haven't been able to get a video of it yet due to my phone going for an unexpected swim in the Gulf of Mexico last week, but what I believe is a new dispensary just south of Zoo Bar (in the little standalone building where the law firm used to be) definitely makes its presence known to the south-f...

Re: 311 Changes

I was unable to get the new app to take my report. I tried various forms of naming the cross streets of the intersection, and I tried using addresses. Everything I entered was rejected. And the ability to simply click the location on the map appears to be gone.

Are the search settings tweakable?

Before I posted a new topic about 311 a few minutes ago I did a search to see if there was an existing thread I could tack my comment on to. I got the following error searching for "311". Is it possible to tweak the search settings to allow for search terms shorter than 4 characters? The following w...

311 Changes

I went to the 311 web site this morning to report a traffic light issue and noticed they've replaced the whole reporting system with a new app. The old map seems to be gone, and now you can only see 311 reports that you personally reported? Am I missing something or is that really the case? If so, t...

Re: Best Local Trails

Living out south, I used to ride the loop formed by the Indian Creek and Tomahawk Creek trails, and it was fantastic. Almost all street crossings were grade separated, IIRC. Of all things, I'll never forget how good the floral blooms smelled in spring through the Corporate Woods stretch This is the...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

Some creative geography. The modern image of oak tower is killing me Yeah, I noticed that too. Somebody posted a comparison to a real photo of the 1950s skyline. Apart from minor details, most of the larger buildings at least are reasonably close. Now, replacing everything north of the Lewis & Clar...

Re: COVID-19 Casualties

Clubhouse Experience (although not sure how much COVID19 impacted them) Bummer. That outdoor space never caught on. At least they built out a full kitchen so filling the space should be easier. That outdoor space probably could have saved them from covid if it were done better. But the way it was s...

Work being done on the water building at 2nd and main

My company is relocating there from Midtown and will be the building's first tenant. We are the western half of the second floor and start moving in in about 6 weeks.

The ground floor is being shelled out as future restaurant/bar space.

Re: KC in TV and Movies

I finally got around to watching the new Fargo Season 4 trailer (set in 1950s KC) after seeing it mentioned again on Reddit. I saved a couple of screenshots that gave me chills. (You can right-click either image to see them full-size.) Note: I tweaked the first image a little in Photoshop as the ver...

I never noticed until now that the project includes extending 3rd Street to connect to Beardsley. That's a huge improvement over the awkward jog currently required.

Which garage building is being demolished? The Club Garage (~3ish-level tan building) or the Muehlebach Garage (~7ish-level red building)? I suspect it’s this one https://i.imgur.com/R061pks.jpg Ah, I forgot about that one, that makes the most sense. I got thrown off by the discussion of the Clubho...

Permit to stabilize the building to the north has been approved. This is needed before the demo of the garage building can commence.
