Re: KC's Top Ten Dive Bars

All of those so-called dive bars used to be dive bars before they became hipster bars. I think there are still real dive bars in NE and Independence and probably Gladstone. Hope the hipsters don't find them.

Re: Plaza Environs

I've been living downtown since 2005 and it has become part of my identity. I love my neighborhood, Columbus Park. I walk or bike almost everywhere. I spent the weekend at a house in the S. Plaza and was really amazed at the amount of pedestrian activity. It was lively and clean and there are an unb...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hampton Inn (formerly Gumbel Building)

For several months it was closed while it had huge inflatable tentacles hanging out of the windows and connecting to some portable structure. It looked like something from the movie Brazil. They've been gone for a few months but the sign says closed and people have been working in there.

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

I have and I am a rye drinker. It is very good, but I doubt I'll buy it very often. At that price point, there are other ryes I prefer. And being low brow, I'm perfectly happy with Old Overholt at about half the price.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

I only recall the space at 13th and Grand and, despite the signage, I always knew it as – and it seemed to always be called – Lil' Jake's Eat It and Beat It. It was very good and I'm embarrassed to say I haven't visited the SW BLVD location.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

This is in the "DMZ" that is claimed by both Westside and Crossroads. Some people on the Westside will never forgive Butch Rigby for calling it Screenland Crossroads, and it's why the Cityscape development further south is called "Crossroads Westside" (which was not the original name). Neighborhood...

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals

The East Village has been nothing for over 20 years. The area where the P&L District is now was nothing for 40 + years. That is not true. The Midland was active. There were haunted houses. Time for News, Soakies, and at least one strip club. There were dozens of other small businesses littered thro...

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

Friend sent me a post from Columbus park neighborhood that Edward Franklin is presenting to the neighborhood this week about redeveloping the rest of the land around CP Lofts. I think that was all a port KC project? No, it's LCRA. It's a complicated clusterfuck. The remaining 6 acres to the east (w...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

Love Fraud is streaming on Showtime. Much of it takes place in KC and there are lots of shots of the subject's haunts, including Centropolis (where he rented a few apartments for short-term corporate housing), the River Market and random other b-roll stuff. I met "Mickey" in the parking garage of C...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

As far as I know, Bob's doesn't have a new space yet, but it sounds like they are looking for one. Hopefully they get an upgraded spot and that strip gets redeveloped. Win win. Does Nara space make sense? As far as I know, there are no real improvements planned for the strip center and not renewing...
