Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD

The recall effort is a fear reaction. At least wait until there is a public plan for how funds would be reallocated, and what they are trying to accomplish by doing so. I must say though, that when you can't get police to show up at 14th and Grand (five blocks from Police headquarters) to stop cars ...

Re: 18th and Vine

It will never work at 18th and Vine in its' present state. The elements that make pedestrian malls successful are being near a university, or already a tourist destination with a lot of foot traffic. None of these elements exist there. There is not enough population density to create demand for exis...

Re: 18th and Vine

Bad idea. Pedestrian malls fail more times than not. The successful pedestrian malls are mostly near a university, or are in areas with high tourism, and lined with vibrant retail stores, restaurants, and bars. It's where there is ALREADY a lot of foot traffic, and that doesn't exist at 18th and Vin...

I'm surprised this isn't completely full. It's close to Hallmark, Hospital Hill, the Federal Reserve, the IRS, insurance companies and law offices.

Re: Downtown ballpark and condos

I imagine the Chiefs would stay at TSC. While the Metro is growing in the Northland, it's also growing eastward, southeastward and south as well, so TSC would grow to be a more central location over time. It depends on who is financing a new stadium. If Jackson County residents are financing it, the...

I'm happy to see that that extra expense to construct a green building has paid off. I'd love to see how much it costs to heat the apartments compared to an apartment of a similar square footage. This is also good news. l...The concept has gone so well that its developer, Jonathan Arnold is explorin...

Re: Downtown ballpark and condos

Splitting the teams between Jackson and Johnson counties might be the only way to finance two new stadiums. When push comes to shove, keeping the Chiefs will be the priority locally. I've observed much more passion in the region for the Chiefs than the Royals. In addition, I've observed that Mahomes...

Re: Surface Lots, Land Banking, Ect

It would seem to me that the approach to take would be to change how the county values a surface parking lot versus a parcel with an improved, maintained building on it. The obvious way is a land tax, and by how you zone the parcel. If the tax on vacant land is high enough, it motivates the property...
