I went back to Peoria for the Thanksgiving holiday, this year, and was able to see a lot of relatives I don't see very often. Also, there was Balderdash.
When I arrived in Peoria, I found that the dog I grew up with had been put to sleep earlier in the day. The remaining dog was despondent.
Julia and I went out to Crusen's to catch our cousin Joe's band, Water Street, play a couple sets.
Jim and Julia got a chance to talk.
Julia and I went up to the stage to talk with Joe, on one of their breaks, and we held up the entire line for a good seven to nine minutes.
Aunt Liz and Genevieve discussed Gen's new awesome job.
They continue.
Julia got a chance to talk to Will, while there.
Ellen and I caught up, and Jim came and hijacked a picture with us.
Genevieve and Julia keep up the chatter.
Such a nice photo.
The day of Thanksgiving itself, came, and Julia and I took Grandma down to Chillicothe for dinner at Dianne's house. Here, Dianne and Brenda wait for the turkey.
The grandmas trade motorcycle racing stories.
Terry and Sherry came for dinner, which was a nice surprise for Julia and me.
Brenda and Julia smile big.
Julia asks the grandmas about the importance of balance, in motorcycle racing.
Brenda and me, at an impasse.
Joe, a friend of Tim, Dianne's husband, told stories about his trip to Wyoming.
Grandma is actually two feet tall, as is exhibited in this photograph.
Julia digs the overexposure, and Dianne gets her Balderdash on.
Brenda talks to her dog-owning sister, whose dogs she had forgotten to feed.
Tim bears the phone call.
The next night, I went to the Red Barn, very close to my old high school, to see my cousin's ensemble, "The Silver Mullet Band," rock the open mic.
I'm sorry, but I don't remember the names of either of the people on the left.
I ran into Joey Schmid. He goes by "Joe," now, by the way. He had a mind to do some open mic pickin' and singin' too. That's his sister.
Casey and the boys play their electric guitar/bongo rendition of "Like a Prayer."
Dan gets his showmanship on.
Casey belts out some Franz Ferdinand.
Uncle Paul and Ellen were on hand, to give notes.
Vince arrived, and played a few songs of his own. I didn't photograph them, though.
After the Red Barn, I wandered over to Washington for the tail end of the civil portion of what became a high school party. Will dig.
Genevieve does her famous hand-blur trick.
Will and Ward discuss something with someone off the right side of the frame.
I drove back on Saturday, which turned out to be an excellent move. The traffic was light, and I only needed to fill up at the very beginning of my trip, at 11 AM, and at the end of my trip, at 5 PM, in North KC. I spotted this building across the street from the Quiktrip where I topped off.
