Memorial Day Weekend, 2006

I stayed in KC for Memorial Day weekend, in 2006, and made sure to have lots of fun. Here's the straight poop.

lotfull.jpgThis was taken a week earlier, but I thought it was funny because the lot, obviously, is not full.
dontlook.jpgSome rogue art near the H&R Block construction.
marblebase.jpgThe first couple of floors of the new building are being reinforced with some attractive marble.
midland.jpgThe Midland Theatre is visible over the tumult.
mugs.jpgOn the Friday of Memorial day weekend, we convened at 75th St Brewery, and got our mug on.
phone.jpgI talked business with one of my constituents.
chrisjeff.jpgChris and Jeff tell knock-knock jokes.
broken.jpgI made to push away from the table by pushing in the floor, but the floor was unfortunately covered by the base of the table. I pushed that, and knocked my glass of delicious beer off the table, breaking it into many unusable pieces.
john.jpgWe went to the Peanut after that.
johnjeff.jpgJeff and I listened attentively.
chris.jpgChris, in a darkened state.
noug.jpgSuper-noug!
jeffholly.jpgJeff and Holly rap like the kids.
kc_tm_jk_cc_ch.jpgIndoors, in color.
shadows.jpgThe shadow cast by Chris' head against the blinds should be his forum avatar.
andtheladies.jpgNoug took our picture, and never counted it off. He'd just snap it when nobody was ready.
offcenter.jpgA tip
jeffjoins.jpgInterestingly, Terra always had her game face on.
scratch.jpgWe were then presented with the question of what to do, at that point. The troops were restless, and the beer was running out.
johnhollyoffcenter.jpgNoug fires another off-center picture of Holly casting me a look of doubt. I suppose I encourage things like that.
mt_john.jpgThe night was lovely, though. I was enjoying the moment.
jeff.jpgJeff reaches for the camera.
chris.jpgChris is up to something.
noug.jpgCole was letting it all sink in.
farley.jpgWhen I'm enjoying a beer, I often forget to hold in my gut as much as I'd like.
overjohn.jpgYou know it, and so do I. Ties rock.
john.jpgShortly after this picture was taken, Cole and I grabbed a cab back downtown, and skipped any more of being out, that night.
johns.jpgThe next day, I walked down to the River Market to meet up with some friends. On the way, I walked through this little construction tunnel thingie near John's.
ryanjenkristin.jpgI got to Matt's place, where beer was flowing and guacamole was being produced.
indoorsoccer.jpgAfter the munchies were prepared, Matt and Ryan busied themselves with a soccer ball.
lotsoccer.jpgWe all piled into Ryan's car and rode out to Arrowhead, where they kicked some more ball.
hatch.jpgJeff, Ryan, and Kristin watched the goofiness.
lineup.jpgThe Wizards hosted the DC United for some sparsely-attended MLS action.
crowd.jpgThis was a view from our seats.
gros.jpgSome dude named "Gros" handles the ball.
soccer.jpgA KC player moves the ball up the field.
legs.jpgMy legs.
owned.jpgThe next day, while Nathan was moving out, a spider was eating a really big fly.
kristinmatt.jpgJeff and I met Eric and his mom at Fiorella's in the Freighthouse for dinner, and parted after eating. As we walked up the stairs to Main, we ran into Kristin and Matt, who were in the midst of a scenic ride.
gazebo.jpgI like that this building has a gazebo on the roof.
wauto.jpgThe vaunted Western Auto sign, atop a building now filled with overpriced condominiums.
freighthouse.jpgA view of the Freighthouse area from Main.
crossroads.jpgHereford House, Hotel Midwest, and so on.
jeffmattkristin.jpgWe stood at leisure with Matt and Kristin for ten minutes or so.
shabby.jpgIt's difficult to imagine places looking this crappy in the heart of the Crossroads.
view.jpgView from 20th and Main.
alley.jpgAn alley in the crossroads.
reflect.jpgReflective glass makes for neat, hackish pictures.
columns.jpgThey painted these columns so you don't run into them.
mattbetty.jpgOn our way to Grinders, we ran into Matt and Betty.
tunnel.jpgThis seems to be some kind of parking tunnel.
light.jpgThe sun sets against the city.
shoesmcgee.jpgThis isn't the first pair of shoes I've seen thrown over a power line, in the last few weeks.
swollen.jpgAt some point, my left eye became very itchy. I was driven to the brink of madness trying to quell it, because it seemed like there was something in my eye. When Jeff returned with my camera, this picture was taken.
jeffbecca.jpgJeff and Becca enjoy a drink.
bread.jpgSome banana-nut bread that Becca had packed.
