I stayed in KC for Memorial Day weekend, in 2006, and made sure to have lots of fun. Here's the straight poop.
This was taken a week earlier, but I thought it was funny because the lot, obviously, is not full.
Some rogue art near the H&R Block construction.
The first couple of floors of the new building are being reinforced with some attractive marble.
The Midland Theatre is visible over the tumult.
On the Friday of Memorial day weekend, we convened at 75th St Brewery, and got our mug on.
I talked business with one of my constituents.
Chris and Jeff tell knock-knock jokes.
I made to push away from the table by pushing in the floor, but the floor was unfortunately covered by the base of the table. I pushed that, and knocked my glass of delicious beer off the table, breaking it into many unusable pieces.
We went to the Peanut after that.
Jeff and I listened attentively.
Chris, in a darkened state.
Super-noug!
Jeff and Holly rap like the kids.
Indoors, in color.
The shadow cast by Chris' head against the blinds should be his forum avatar.
Noug took our picture, and never counted it off. He'd just snap it when nobody was ready.
A tip
Interestingly, Terra always had her game face on.
We were then presented with the question of what to do, at that point. The troops were restless, and the beer was running out.
Noug fires another off-center picture of Holly casting me a look of doubt. I suppose I encourage things like that.
The night was lovely, though. I was enjoying the moment.
Jeff reaches for the camera.
Chris is up to something.
Cole was letting it all sink in.
When I'm enjoying a beer, I often forget to hold in my gut as much as I'd like.
You know it, and so do I. Ties rock.
Shortly after this picture was taken, Cole and I grabbed a cab back downtown, and skipped any more of being out, that night.
The next day, I walked down to the River Market to meet up with some friends. On the way, I walked through this little construction tunnel thingie near John's.
I got to Matt's place, where beer was flowing and guacamole was being produced.
After the munchies were prepared, Matt and Ryan busied themselves with a soccer ball.
We all piled into Ryan's car and rode out to Arrowhead, where they kicked some more ball.
Jeff, Ryan, and Kristin watched the goofiness.
The Wizards hosted the DC United for some sparsely-attended MLS action.
This was a view from our seats.
Some dude named "Gros" handles the ball.
A KC player moves the ball up the field.
My legs.
The next day, while Nathan was moving out, a spider was eating a really big fly.
Jeff and I met Eric and his mom at Fiorella's in the Freighthouse for dinner, and parted after eating. As we walked up the stairs to Main, we ran into Kristin and Matt, who were in the midst of a scenic ride.
I like that this building has a gazebo on the roof.
The vaunted Western Auto sign, atop a building now filled with overpriced condominiums.
A view of the Freighthouse area from Main.
Hereford House, Hotel Midwest, and so on.
We stood at leisure with Matt and Kristin for ten minutes or so.
It's difficult to imagine places looking this crappy in the heart of the Crossroads.
View from 20th and Main.
An alley in the crossroads.
Reflective glass makes for neat, hackish pictures.
They painted these columns so you don't run into them.
On our way to Grinders, we ran into Matt and Betty.
This seems to be some kind of parking tunnel.
The sun sets against the city.
This isn't the first pair of shoes I've seen thrown over a power line, in the last few weeks.
At some point, my left eye became very itchy. I was driven to the brink of madness trying to quell it, because it seemed like there was something in my eye. When Jeff returned with my camera, this picture was taken.
Jeff and Becca enjoy a drink.
Some banana-nut bread that Becca had packed.
