Time Travel
Weirdest SPAM ever:

Hello,

I'm a time traveler stuck here in 2003. Since nobody here seems to be able to get me what I need (safely here to me), I will have to build a simple time travel circuit to get where I need myself. I am going to need an easy to follow picture diagram for a simple time travel circut, which can be built out of (readily available) parts here in 2003. Please email me any schematics you have. I will pay good money for anything you send me I can use. Or if you have the rechargeable AMD dimensional warp generator wrist watch unit available, and are 100% certain you have a (secure) means of delivering it to me please also reply. Send a separate email to me at: webmaster@custompaintshop.net.

Do not reply back directly to this email as it will only be bounced back to you.

Thank You

Brian Appel

No idea what actual purpose it could serve, but I thought it was funny.

Plans in the Works
I am working on some more features, to make this a bit more engaging, but am still in the planning stages with it. When I finish writing it, and if I can manage to do so, I'll unveil it here. I have been placed in charge of a big non-production environment this week, that basically keeps to itself, so I'll have some time to work on said new feature.

For the first time in a long time, it isn't painfully hot outside, and I can sleep under my blankets. How nice!

Carl is 26
A happy birthday to Carl! Enjoy it in whatever screwed up hippie way you can. 26, huh? Well, good on you.

Shattered Illusions
So, I just recently found out that the emoticon formed by typing colon-uppercase-p(:P) isn't what I thought it was. I had always been of the misguided thought that it was supposed to form a playful smiley face. Instead, i have been informed that it is in fact, a disdainful face, with its tongue sticking out.

Lord of the Rings
I finished by second full read of Lord of The Rings today, and I have a few thoughts. First of all, I really wish I had read the books in the proper order of the Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and then Lord of The Rings. I unfortunately did not, and in addition, I saw the first of the new feature films before I was very far into the first book. Things would have been much more of a surprise, I think. However, after having read the Silmarillion, I got a lot more out of the big read this time through, and I finished it much more quickly. Last time, it took me about 6 months, because of various lulls and haltings in reading. This time, I finished it in just over five weeks.

Countless are the real-life lessons that can be extracted from the Lord of The Rings. Because of this, and the fact that the incredible story is told in such a manner as to make me proud to speak English, I will reread the story many times, hoping to catch even more; struggling, laughing, and crying along with the characters in this amazing book.

Telekinesis
I sometimes have dreams about having minor telekinetic powers, in which I close doors with my mind, and a dramatic, jedi-like wave of my hand. My favorite thing to do in these dreams, however, is to fly, in a Crouching-Tiger-Hidden-Dragon kind of way. I don't know how well either of these fun things to dream about can work in reality, but here's a page to get you started, freak.

Boston in September ... Again
I have arrived safely in Boston, having flown on September 11th, and it isn't quite as warm as I had hoped. I think I will have to purchase a long-sleeved shirt, as I didn't bring any. When I told Carl that I didn't bring any long-sleeved shirts, he bore a look of such incredulity that I felt embarrassed. We tromped around some parts of town yesterday, and with my in-need-of-repair boots, I earned two nasty blisters on my heels, which WebMD tells me to treat with aspirin.(Thanks a lot, professionals.)

Yet again, I will be seeing Guster this weekend(tonight), after which Tim and Curtis will be arriving from Chicago, to help us celebrate being in Boston. I hope to have internet access when I feel like posting updates, but in order to project an image of coolnees, I mustn't appear too eager to use computers for any reason, let alone recreation.

Harpoon Beer is delicious.

Morning in Boston
Saturday morning, and I am a little more hung over than I thought I would be. No matter. I'll drink some wasser and move on. Guster was a lot of fun, but they really didn't do anything that I haven't seen them do before. That kind of disappointed me, for it being a hometown show. We went to some bar in Brighton last night that stops serving about a half hour after the state say they are supposed to be closed. I found that humorous. We have a big day ahead of us, and we'll be pretty hung over tomorrow. Boston is fun.

No Red Sox
We did not get into Fenway Park last night, because we didn't feel like paying 150 dollars to watch 7 innings. Instead we drank lots and lots of beer, at the Boston Beer Works. We called it a relatively early night, and came back to Carl's and watched Old School, and fell asleep during said film.

There are several people who view this website on a regular basis, but one in particular who seems to want nothing more than to ridicule it in whatever way they can, to the point of unnerving me into removing the comments and forums I worked so hard to write. In response to this, I honestly don't know what do, because I am convinced that there are people out there that actually do enjoy looking at this website, and would like to comment in a constructive, friendly manner. So, with whatever name you want to use, please let me know what you want me to do. Do you want me to idly sit by as you quip at my expense about things you don't understand? Fine. I will offer no more resistance. I won't edit any more of your witty little jabs at me and my sensibilities, disguised as humor. Wail away. I know I can't beat you, because you are unpleasable, and if I do act in a way that makes me appear the least bit defiant, you'll do whatever you can to break the website I've put together myself, or at least try to belittle and embarrass me in front of the few good-natured people that view this site to see what I am up to.

You win. Use all the language you want, insult me, my taste, and my friends all you wish. Enjoy being right all the time, and poking at me and my little website.

Pretty Aspirations
I just spotted an interesting website. Rachel Lucas seems to be a woman after my own heart, upon a couple of reads of her material. I will delve deeper.

I'm thinking of changing the look of the site, as I have come across a lot of sites that seem to trip my trigger. I think I might have to employ some images, though. The site has come a long way from its humble beginnings(I wish I had a link for that), but there's still a lot more I can do to make it more usable, informative, and interactive. Upon a refresher in image manipulation, I hereby decree that I suck at it.

Dave McD Visits
An old friend, Dave McDermott, came to town this weekend, on a diverted trip back to Iowa from Colorado Springs. It was never certain when he would make it here, but on Friday, just after I had turned my lights off to get a nap, he called to say that he wouldn't be able to make it on that day, because of obligations he had in Colorado. With this in mind, Brian and I went to Boulevard without him, and were impressed with the massive expansions in capacity they are making, and the construction that testified thereto.

When we arrived at home, Saturday afternoon, Brian clicked on the flashing answering machine, and played back a message from about 45 seconds previous, from Dave, as he wandered around Midtown, looking for 214 East Armour Blvd. I ran downstairs, and up and down the street, watching for him driving a car I wouldn't recognize, carrying a phone of which I didn't know the number. On one of my circuits, I was walking back east on Armour, toward the building, when I saw Dave walking on the sidewalk with the same plaintive expression on his face that I had.

We went down to the Plaza Art Fair, and had a total blast, wandering around in the perfect weather, sipping on reasonably-priced drinks, and moved on to 75th Street Brewery for seasonals and dinner. After that, we hit the Velvet Dog for more beer, conversation, and a good chance to catch up. We walked home from there, stopping at the 7-11 to pick up a twelve-pack. So ended Saturday.

We went to mass at 11, came home for some bacon, eggs, potatoes, and Entenmann's. We spent the next few hours giving Dave a tour of the city, and topped off the day at Porter's Deli and Bar, where AC's Garage used to be. We came home and played some CTF on our little apartment LAN, and went to bed.

In many ways it was a typical weekend, except for the pleasant fact that Dave McDermott was here. But, it wasn't until the tail-end of the weekend that it was made clear to me that this was the last weekend we had at 214 East Armour. We move next weekend.

Impending Moves
We move this weekend, and ironically, the location for work changes at the same time, too. Tonight will be my last night working in Lees Summit. On Monday night, I'll report to Leawood for work. After work, Brian and I are going down to New Quality Hill's offices, where we'll sign the lease, and get the whole puppet show about not damaging the walls, and where the mailboxes are. Otherwise, this weekend, we each have plans to go out a number of times, including another party at Alex's in Olathe, a good-bye bar outing for Eddy, who's leaving my shift for a better job elsewhere, and the Royals' last game on Sunday.

Somewhere in there, we need to fit in a move.
